Cops and Kids
Walt Whitman is truly a Community School. Not only do we serve the scholars and families in the area, but we also strive to establish solid relationships with key community stakeholders. One of our longest and strongest community partnerships has been with cops from the 67th Precinct (only a block away). These amazing officers currently hold an afterschool program for not only Whitman Scholars but other scholars in District 17 schools. The Cops and Kids Afterschool Program allow our scholars to establish positive relationships with the officers from the 67 Precinct. They engage in mentorship and allow scholars to play sports with the officers.
Walt Whitman Middle School is proud and honored to work closely with the 67th Precinct to establish positive relationships between members of the community and correctional officers.
How to Sign You Scholar Up for the Cops and Kids After School Program
If you would like your scholars to participate in the Cops and Kids After School Program, please call the school and ask to speak to one of the administrators. The program runs Tuesday - Friday from 4 PM - 6 PM. The officers like to meet with possible participants and their parents before a scholar joins the programs.
