Future Whitman Wildcats
Welcome to the Best Middle School in Brooklyn
Hello, Future Whitman Wildcat Scholars and Wildcat Parents/Guardians! We are honored that you have chosen Walt Whitman as your prospective Middle School.
Walt Whitman has a long history of serving the East Flatbush community. Built in 1938, the school is one of the oldest middle schools in Brooklyn. Over the years, it has seen countless scholars pass through its halls and move on to become successful and productive individuals in the community and the world.
Currently, the student population is small (around 320 scholars) and diverse. We have a sizable population of Spanish-speaking scholars, Haitian-Creole-speaking scholars, and Arabic-speaking scholars.
Families in the community of entrusted us with their children time and time and again and we pride ourselves in providing a safe school with that helps scholars reach their full potential over the course of their 3 years in the building. We have a fantastic track record of preparing our scholars for high school and beyond.
Please see all that we have to offer below and don't hesitate to reach out with questions/concerns. If you'd like to come and see the school, please reach out to our parent coordinator, Mrs. Vixamar (svixamar@schools.nyc.gov) or call the school at 718.282.5230

Our Amazing Teaching Staff
We have an amazing teaching staff at Walt Whitman Middle School. Not only do over 80% of our teachers have 10 or more years of experience, but our teachers' collective strength is providing a family-oriented environment for our scholars. We have several scholars who are actual Whitman graduates and a lot of teachers live in the Flatbush community. We are truly a Community School!
